Katrina Day 4

Day 218:

We worked on John's house for 2 days. He had this beautiful, old Creole style home. The inside was completely gutted. There are still remainders of the history of this house. This wallpaper, for example. It's actually made from old newspapers, the oldest one found (so far) dating from 1890s!


The guys took out the floorboards and this was what was left.


The house next door. There was a whole section attached to where the white space is of this house.


This dog was awesome. :) So friendly. Look at her...she's just enjoying life.

Katrina Day 1

Day 216:

This is the church we met at every morning during our work week. The sanctuary was flooded. It had been cleaned out and someone with a wonderful sense of humor left this giant teddy bear on the balcony. :)


Our group worked with Miss Joanna and her wonderful nephew, Elton, came to help after school.


She told us some pretty crazy stories about her experience. I show this picture because she told us about her new hardwood floors she had put in within a year of living in her house. Then Katrina hit. Now this is what's left.


There's still a lot of cleaning up to do in New Orleans.
